Gypsy Junk Bunny: Turning Treasures Into Art

Updated: Feb 24

There’s something magical about giving forgotten treasures a second life. The Gypsy Junk Bunny project was born from that very idea — taking broken jewelry, single earrings, old keys, beads, charms, and bits of sparkle tucked away in drawers and transforming them into a whimsical mixed-media portrait.

This sweet bunny isn’t just art — she’s a story. Every layer holds a memory. A vintage brooch from Grandma. A key that no longer opens a door. A lonely earring waiting for its match. When we build these textured portraits, we aren’t just gluing pieces down — we’re composing a mosaic of moments. The result is dimensional, soulful, and beautifully unexpected.

What I love most about this project is that no two bunnies are ever alike. Each one reflects the personality and treasures of the artist creating it. Some are bold and blingy. Some are soft and sentimental. All of them sparkle with character.

Why I Love Teaching Classes

I’ve been teaching art classes for years — across several states — and every place has brought its own flavor of creativity. From cozy coastal communities to bustling town centers, I’ve had the joy of watching beginners discover their inner artist and experienced makers try something completely new.

Teaching isn’t just about technique for me. It’s about creating a space where people feel relaxed, inspired, and brave enough to try. Art should be joyful. It should be hands-on, a little messy, and full of laughter. Over the years, I’ve seen friendships form over paintbrushes, confidence bloom over glue guns, and so many women (and a few brave men!) say, “I didn’t know I could do this.”

That’s my favorite moment.

The Gypsy Junk Bunny class is especially close to my heart because it combines storytelling, texture, and treasure hunting all in one. It’s approachable for beginners, but detailed enough for seasoned creatives to really dive in. And of course, adding a little sparkle and a glass of wine never hurts either.

At the end of the day, art connects us. It reminds us that even broken pieces can become something beautiful. And honestly? That’s a pretty good life lesson tucked inside a bunny portrait.

✨ Be sure to reserve your place — only 12 seats are available and they fill quickly! 🐰 Classes are held at The Beach House 206 West Shell Point Rd, Ruskin, FL.
